Driver CPC is a scheme for LGV (lorry) and PCV (bus) drivers who drive professionally throughout the UK. It has been developed as a requirement of the EU Directive 2003/59, which is designed to improve the knowledge and skills of professional LGV and PCV drivers throughout their working life.

The legislation became mandatory on 10th September 2008 for the PCV sector and on 10th September 2009 for the LGV sector. Irrespective of when or how a driver obtains the Driver CPC, he or she must complete a total of 35 hours ‘Periodic Training' within the following five years to keep the Driver CPC valid.

ABOUT PERIODIC TRAINING

Periodic Training is designed to compliment and expand the existing knowledge and skills of each driver, to ensure that they continue to be safe, courteous and fuel-efficient drivers. This will also enable drivers to keep up-to-date with ever changing regulations and to benefit from training throughout their whole career.

GTG Training has developed a range of one day and half day courses that count towards the 35 required hours.

All courses are JAUPT approved and can be tailored to suit your company or individual needs.

One day training courses are available in:

• Manual Handling & Customer Care
  
• ADR Initial & Refresher Training Courses
• Tachograph & Drivers Hours (Analogue & Digital)
  
• Fire Fighting & First Aid

A range of half day, ‘Accelerator Courses' have been developed to fit around your normal working hours and cover a wider range of subjects within a shorter period of time. Choose any 2 of the ‘Accelerator Courses' from options below to gain 1 day Periodic Training or complete all 4 to gain 2 days Periodic Training.

Half day Accelerator training courses are available in:

• Manual Handling & Safe Loading
• Daily Vehicle Checks & Vehicle Security
• Customer Care & Fuel Economy
• Drivers Hours & Working Time Directive

The minimum length of a training course is 7 hours contact time with the trainer. Where a course of 7 hours is split into two parts the second must start within 24 hours of completion of the first part.

Training with GTG allows you to spread your training and costs over the 5 years making it more convenient and affordable. The approval process for courses is managed on behalf of The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) by the Joint Approvals Unit for Periodic Training (JAUPT). GTG Training has been approved by JAUPT to run Periodic Training. All above courses are approved by JAUPT but may be referred to as Drivers Health & Safety Modular courses.
