GTG Training has welcomed comments from a host of the UK's top business people on building new skills in a bid to stop UK employers slashing staff training to cut costs as the economic downturn becomes evident. Grahame Smith, General Secretary of the Scottish TUC, urged employers to sustain or even increase their investment in training, saying: "Now is precisely the time to keep investing in the skills and talents of our people. It is the people we employ who get us through. Investing now in building new skills will put us in the strongest position as the economy recovers."
David Scott, Chief Executive of GTG said, "There is no better time for businesses to invest in people and strengthen the skills and talents of their employees. The present economic climate is slow, however, the country will recover and businesses will have a competitive advantage with improved staff skills."
Echoing the thoughts of the GTG Chief Executive, Maureen Watt, Minister for schools said, "I am delighted with the initiative being shown by key business leaders and trade unions, who are reminding employers about the continued importance of staff training - training which will ensure that businesses can more quickly adapt to the changing economic climate and more quickly recover from the current downturn. We must ensure Scottish businesses emerge from the current downturn stronger and more competitive on the changed world stage."
