Scotland's largest training group, GTG Training, honoured a record breaking 268 students, including 243 Modern Apprentices, at the annual GTG Graduation event this week.
Guest speaker Fred MacAulay entertained students with tales of his Sport Relief canoeing challenge in February and highlighted the achievement of the students so far. Commenting, "It has been an honour to present the students with their certificates and celebrate their commitment to their chosen skill. The facilities at GTG are magnificent, making it an incredible learning environment."
The evening saw students being awarded with a whole array of qualifications from the department of Motor Vehicles and Logistics to Management, Health and Safety and Business Studies. The awards included Modern Apprenticeships in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, certificates in Automotive Retail Management and Contact Centre Professional, reflecting the scope and quality of training provided by GTG.
Every year GTG Training presents an award to the Student of the Year, in recognition of their achievements and outstanding commitment to training and overcoming significant personal challenges. GTG Chairman Glen Gall and Fred MacAulay awarded Ross Kane, GTG Student of the Year 2010.
Ross Kane couldn't hide his delight at the award. He commented, "To be named Student of the Year 2010 is incredible. It just shows you what you can do with hard work and support from the teachers."
Having established its reputation as one of Scotland's leading training centre's, GTG now sees an astonishing total of 18,000 trainees attend courses here in Glasgow and in Edinburgh ever year, approximately 1,000 of those trainees belonging to a Modern Apprentice programme.
Chief Executive of GTG, David Scott said, "The scheme wouldn't be possible without the support of two very important bodies - Skills Development Scotland funds a majority of the apprenticeships and the employer, such as Arnold Clark."
Sir Arnold Clark commented, "GTG offers the trainee skills in a range of areas from car mechanics to administration and customer service. I am delighted for all the graduates and wish them every success in their chosen career."
The awards ceremony allowed awardees to celebrate and receive recognition for their achievement together with staff, family and friends who have supported them throughout their training. Guests enjoyed entertainment from a Jazz band and complimentary wine and canapés.
