GTG Training, winner of ‘Learning provider of the Year 2009' and recently nominated for the prestigious UK Training Journal award of ‘Best Apprenticeship Programme 2010', is already reowned for its first class training facilities and exceptional delivery on a wide range of courses . But now, in additional to these accolades, GTG Training has received a prestigious healthy living award in recognition of the fabulous onsite café facilities hosted at both centres, in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
The healthyliving award certificates were presented by Yvonne Traynor, healthyliving award Project Manager, at a recent healthyliving Awards Ceremony held in The Beardmore Hotel, Clydebank on the 9th June. James Fairbrother, the manager of the Thistle Catering at GTG, was there to receive the flattering accolade.
GTG Trainings onsite cafes are run by Thistle Caterers and offer a variety of healthy options , with hot and cold meals and snacks, freshly made meat and vegetarian sandwiches, with fair-trade tea and coffee, all served in professional, yet relaxed surroundings.
GTG Glasgow has the facility to host small to medium events with different catering options such as the Bronze, Silver and Gold Packages , which all offer superior catering and encompass morning, lunch and afternoon breaks.
The healthy living award, launched in 2006, gives national recognition to caterers and the food service sector for providing healthier menu options as well as associated promotional activity.
The award is open to most types of catering outlets and already the range of award holders includes: restaurants, cafes, hospitals, mobile snack vans and offshore platforms. In particular, the award focuses on places where people eat regularly, such as workplace restaurants, in order to have the maximum influence on Scotland's diet.
To achieve an award there are certain conditions a caterer must meet and these are based around the principles of a healthy balanced diet. Caterers must also put in place an appropriate sales promotion and marketing strategy to encourage and support healthier eating. Over 1700 catering establishments throughout the country have so far registered for the award and over 900 awards have been presented to date.
Minister for Public Health and Sport Shona Robison said:
"I want to congratulate all those who are receiving the healthyliving award on their achievement. This award shows that preparing and promoting healthier foods can be good for business as well as good for health.
"We are committed to tackling Scotland's obesity epidemic and the catering sector plays a vital role in this by helping to ensure that healthier food options are available to everyone."
Yvonne Traynor, Project Manager for the healthyliving award, said:
"The level of commitment shown by these businesses in producing healthy food is exemplary and they have set an industry benchmark which all organisations should strive to attain."
"These businesses are helping their customers to make informed choices by making healthier options widely available and are playing their part in improving the diet of people across Scotland."
