Following the announcement that Arnold Clark was creating 700 new jobs, 120 being Modern Apprenticeships , the Group is delighted to advise that the apprentices have completed their initial training at £10 million purpose-built GTG Training in Glasgow and are now out on placement within the local Arnold Clark dealerships.
Working under the guidance of the bodyshop managers within Arnold Clark branches, the apprentices will have invaluable on-the-job experience together with continued expert advice and training. The apprentices will build upon their existing knowledge gained at GTG and hone their skills to progress further along the career ladder.
Recently awarded Glasgow Business Award for Apprentice Employer of the Year, Arnold Clark in conjunction with GTG Training, prides itself in the quality of training and development it provides. All Arnold Clark apprentices attend one of GTG's Training Centres on block release to help them gain the skills and knowledge necessary to achieve their Modern Apprenticeship qualification. Fully qualified instructors and assessors support and encourage trainees, ensuring they are qualified to the highest level within their field.
With youth employment reportedly heading towards the one million mark* Arnold Clark and GTG Training recognise the importance of investing in the future's workforce. Arnold Clark alone annually employs and trains over 450 Modern Apprentices and GTG Training has more than 17,000 trainees and 850 apprentices passing through its doors each year.
Sir Arnold Clark understands the importance of training for young individuals, businesses and the economy, commenting, "Modern Apprenticeships are an excellent stepping stone into the workplace and I truly hope that all suitably qualified school leavers will be offered the opportunity to train in the Modern Apprentice scheme over the coming months. In this tough economic climate, development of Scotland's skill base is essential."
At a time when almost half of large businesses are cutting their training budget**, GTG urges companies to continue training employees and also to develop the careers of the future generation. David Scott, GTG chief executive, stated, "Investing in skills and training has never been more important in business. With Modern Apprenticeship programmes, a skilled and qualified workforce is created and a pathway leading young people into employment is developed. Training not only provides people with the skills necessary to do their jobs, but also highlights the employer's dedication to developing and improving their staff."
