Sporty Spanish car maker SEAT is helping to ensure the car technicians of tomorrow get the best possible start to their careers after donating one of its most popular models to the automotive industry's leading independent training provider.

More than 1,000 young apprentices a year will hone their skills on the state-of-the-art SEAT Leon 1.6 TDI CR DSG at GTG Training's impressive purpose-built facility on South Street, Glasgow.

The model, which usually retails at just over £19,000, will be particularly useful for the students as it boasts the latest common rail diesel engine technology and an advanced DSG Direct Shift Gearbox.

The apprentices – who are working towards a variety of industry-recognised qualifications in light vehicle mechanics - will also use the Leon to get to grips with the most modern Electronic Management System, cutting-edge diagnostics and a raft of other on-board gadgetry.

David Scott, Chief Executive of GTG Training, said: "GTG Training is the UK's premier provider of specialist vocational training and the motor industry's centre of excellence in Scotland.

In order for us to deliver the very highest standards of training it's vitally important that we provide our students with the very latest products to study and practice on.

Our product is not training, it's trained people, and having students who are trained with the very latest technology and in the latest techniques is central to that.

This donation from SEAT is very welcome and will help us continue to provide the industry with the very best trained people possible."

Bill Mullen, SEAT's Sales Manager for Scotland and Northern Ireland, said: "We were delighted to be able to support the fantastic work of GTG Training through the donation of one of our latest models.

GTG is well known across the industry for the quality and professionalism of the students who graduate from its apprenticeship courses and no other training provider trains young people in such great numbers.

By donating this car we know that a huge number of young apprentices will have their first encounters with modern motoring technology courtesy of SEAT and that can only benefit our dealerships and customers in the long-term."

GTG Training is part of the highly successful Arnold Clark Group but provides training for automotive companies from across Scotland and much of England. And while the benefits of this donation will be felt by all the companies that use GTG Training's services, Mark Naddell, SEAT Franchise Manager for Arnold Clark's SEAT outlets in Glasgow, Paisley, Edinburgh and Newcastle-upon-Tyne, knows the direct impact it will have on his dealerships.

Mark said: "We are the largest SEAT retailer in the UK and so this donation is great news for us and our young apprentices. It means our apprentices will be exposed to the SEAT brand and SEAT technology during their training and this will serve them in great stead when they return to their workshops to work on SEAT models day-in day-out."
