Smart ways to prepare your phone for a health and safety emergency
It's a good idea to set your phone up with medical information so that you're fully prepared if you encounter a health and safety emergency situation.
The good news is that new technologies are advancing fast, making it easier for medical professionals and emergency service personnel to access the information they need.
Since most of us are never far away from our mobile phones, it's one of the first places paramedics now check for vital health information. You can now add any details about your health to your phone using a handy app called Medical ID .
The app allows paramedics to check for any allergies such as aspirin or penicillin. You can also add any medical conditions such as diabetes, which will help others to find the best treatment for you if you're unconscious.
You can also add information such as your blood type, emergency contact details and current medications.
The app is available on both iOS and Android phones, and your phone doesn't even need to be unlocked for someone to access your medical information.
Register to 999
Did you know that you can also register your phone number with the emergency services? This is incredibly helpful if you find yourself in a situation where you have enough signal to message, but not to call. In those circumstances, you would be able to text your emergency to 999 without the need to speak to someone directly.
