What this apprenticeship teaches you

This qualification aims to give learners the skills they need to install and maintain Electronic Fire and Security Systems. It also provides learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to complete the SVQ 3 in Providing Electronic Fire and Security Systems at SCQF level 6, and the Modern Apprenticeship in Electronic Security Systems at level 3.

Why choose this apprenticeship

It’s a great opportunity for successful learners to progress their career and demonstrate that they have the skills and knowledge required to carry out the role of an Electronic Security Systems Engineer to a professional standard.

This qualification will also help businesses to build a stronger, more confident workforce equipped with greater skills.

The apprenticeship can be government-funded and is designed for candidates who do not hold a formal qualification.

How the apprenticeship works

The apprenticeship is delivered jointly by GTG and the employer.

GTG will deliver the practical elements of the course alongside the employer, who will be responsible for making sure that the apprentice attains all of the skills, behaviours and knowledge required.

The candidates will be at GTG for eight weeks per year and they’ll also be assessed on site. Learners will achieve a Modern Apprenticeship in Electronic Security Systems at the end of the course.

How the assessment works

Apprentices will take part in presentations, classroom discussions and practical demonstrations. The apprentices will then complete written outcome assessments to pass each unit on the course. Apprentices will demonstrate their practical knowledge in the fire and security industry. There are 13 industry standards, also known as NOSs, that the apprentices must learn. To demonstrate their knowledge apprentices will submit written log books and photographic evidence while on site to prove they understand and comply with the relevant standards. GTG assessors will also visit apprentices on site to carry out observations in the workplace. All of this work is uploaded to an online e-portfolio.
