Noise Assessments

Being subjected to loud noise causes deafness and other types of hearing damage. Employers have a duty under health and safety law to reduce the risk of hearing damage to their employees by controlling exposure to noise (Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005). To carry out this duty, you need to know which employees are at risk, and what the level of that risk is.

GTG's professional noise risk assessment complies with current legislation. A report is submitted, listing the measurements, advice on who is at risk, which areas should be ear protection zones, which employees are recommended to wear ear protection and which type of protection this should be. A key section in the report, the Noise Action Plan, provides the vital link between the assessment of the risks and their control. The requirement to eliminate at source or, where this is not reasonably practicable, reduced to as low a level as is reasonably practicable is the key requirement of the new noise regulations.

Using the latest equipment, GTG advisors can undertake this noise survey for you, providing valuable data on the noise risk levels present and helping you comply with the regulations. In order to make a plan to tackle noise problems, you need to know what is causing the risk (what processes, machines, etc) and what the priorities for any action are.

Fire Risk Assessments

To comply with current Fire Safety Law's, it is a legal requirement for all premises to have a fire risk assessment carried out. Owners, directors and managing agents are not only at risk of invalidating their insurance cover, but they could also face personal prosecution or even imprisonment as a consequence of non-compliance. The responsible person must carry out a fire safety risk assessment and implement and maintain a fire management plan. In effect anyone who has some control over premises must take reasonable steps to reduce the risk of fire and make sure people can safely escape if there is a fire.

GTG's Health and Safety Advisory Service has a team of qualified, highly experienced professional safety consultants with extensive experience in developing risk management strategies for hazard elimination and control.

Portable Appliance Testing

Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) is vital to protect your business and its employees. GTG Health and Safety Advisory Service aim to give the best PAT testing service to our customers to enable them to fulfil their obligations with regard to electrical equipment safety. We provide a fast, reliable and professional service at great prices.

We are specialists in the testing of all electrical equipment and use the latest PAT equipment to test both 230V and 110V appliances, we are best placed to help you comply with your legal obligations. All our testing is carried out in accordance with The Institute of Electrical Engineers' (IEE) code of practice.

The Health & Safety Executive states that 25% of all reportable electrical accidents involve portable appliances. The Electricity at Work Regulations place a legal responsibility on employers, employees and self-employed persons to comply with the provisions of the regulations and take reasonably practicable steps to ensure that no danger results from the use of such equipment. This in effect requires the implementation of a systematic and regular program of maintenance, inspection and testing.

The level of inspection and testing required is dependant upon the risk of the appliance becoming faulty, which is in turn dependant upon the type of appliance, the nature of its use and the environment in which it is used.

Health & Safety Audits

GTG's Health and Safety Audit is a systematic approach to ensure compliance with current legislation related to health and safety at work, and is matched with 18001 standards and HSG 65 requirements. Our audit is a critical, in-depth examination of your organisation's health and safety management system. The completed audit thus presented is fully documented, with recommendations and proposals to improve on the company position.

The audit is normally carried out on an annual basis and will provide you with a clear picture of your performance in terms of health and safety. Our audit will highlight all positive and negative aspects of health and safety at the work place, to help to identify, monitor and eradicate any potential health and safety risks associated with your organisation.

Our health and safety audit services should be used in the way best suited to your company's organisation and activities. For some larger companies most sections of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act will be relevant, but for the majority, especially the smaller companies, it will be necessary to be selective.

Our audit system includes the following elements:

Formal inspections are no substitute for continued daily observation by supervisors and management. They provide a useful opportunity to carry out a full-scale examination of all, or part of the workplace.
