GTG forges new partnership with BPW Limited

GTG Training has joined forces with BPW Limited and is set to provide the business with heavy axle maintenance training in Scotland from December.

BPW is a subsidiary of German firm BPW Bergische Achsen. The partnership means BPW’s learners in Scotland will use GTG Glasgow’s facilities to learn how to make and maintain BPW’s heavy axle systems.

The first two-day course gets underway on the 3rd and 4th December at GTG Glasgow’s Kilbirnie Street training centre, with a course running every month in 2020.

The BPW Group, Europe’s leading axle and suspension manufacturer, has made GTG Glasgow its dedicated Scotland-based training centre, with BPW already providing in-house training in England at its centre in Leicester.

Neill Groves, BPW Limited’s Sales and Marketing Director, said: ‘BPW has always invested in creating training opportunities, whether it be through our in-house facilities in Leicester or our mobile training vehicle, the Infomobil. With the industry’s increasing focus on the availability of skilled technicians, GTG Glasgow, with its excellent facilities and expertise in commercial vehicle training, was an obvious choice of partner to provide workshop training in Scotland.’

Running throughout the year, the course covers several modules, including working on BPW’s patented ECO Hub systems and drum and disc brake technology, as well as the firm’s range of suspension systems. And while this might be seen as a ‘heavy’ responsibility, GTG is well equipped for the challenge, with the technical tools to deliver a packed schedule, such as working exhibits and kits for hands-on, classroom-based training.

Iain Wallace, Automotive Training Manager at GTG Glasgow, said: ‘We’re delighted to have been chosen by BPW to exclusively deliver heavy axle maintenance training for BPW’s learners in Scotland. Running this course from our Glasgow training centre, we’re confident it will offer a more easily accessible training venue for BPW’s Scotland-based trainees. Our GTG trainers have been comprehensively trained by BPW’s own expert instructors, while BPW have also supplied us with all axles, and training resources.

‘To build on this success, GTG would like to offer more training courses for trailer technicians in the future, such as IRTEC inspection and service maintenance, with familiarisation courses to complement those such as electrics, suspension, and brakes inspection.’
